Re: I recently saw the movie SICKO...
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 4:04 AMI haven't seen this film so am not sure what you think you might get here. The NHS is free for all UK citizens. We also have a reciprocal arrangement for healthcare in other european states,. However, I should point out, I used to work alongside immigration at a point of entry into the UK, and if they suspected anyone was coming here to get free treatment, they were referred to our unit for interview, and both our unit and immigration could ensure that if this was the case, that the passenger had the funds with them required for the treatment. Any that did not, were refused entry. I presume this still applies.
Emergency treatment is available to all. I'm not sure if there is a charge for those outside the EU. -

Re: I recently saw the movie SICKO...
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 9:35 AMI got a national insurance card as soon as I have a place I was paying rent to and my work permit, even though I wasn't a resident. On the BUNAC scheme I was able to come to the UK and live here, and thus get insurance.
